Setting Up Screening Questions on Jobhound

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 353 views

Screening questions are a tool designed to collect additional information from applicants, using the information received to rank them and save time during the review of applications.

To add a screening question, click the ‘Add new question type’ button in the designated section when creating or editing your job. You can also choose from a list of existing questions or create default questions, which will appear with every new job posting. Learn more about creating default questions here.

The available types of questions include:

  • Yes / No: Applicants can only choose ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ as their answer. Example: “Are you willing to relocate?”
  • Numeric: Applicants can only type a number as their response. This can be used to request expected salary or years of experience. Example: “What is your annual salary expectation?”
  • Open Answer: Applicants can type anything in an open field. Note: Answers given in ‘Open answer’ type do not affect the automated sorting of applicants.
  • Attachment: Applicants will be able to upload a file. Example: “Attach a valid certificate for your qualification…”
  • Multi-Select: Applicants can choose several answer options from your provided list.

Mandatory screening questions

After selecting the type of question, you can edit the question itself, change its type if you have selected the wrong one or decided to change it, and also edit, add, or delete responses for those question types where this is possible.

You can also set whether each screening question is mandatory by checking the ‘Mandatory field’ box.

Screening questions with an ideal answer or conditions

For certain types of questions, such as Yes/No or Numeric, you can specify which answer will meet your requirements (this answer will not be visible to the applicant).

Example of using the Yes/No question type:
For instance, if your applicant answers ‘No’ to the question “Are you willing to relocate?” but you require a ‘Yes’ and set it as the ideal answer, our system will highlight them in the list of applicants and sort them as less suitable.

Example of using the Numeric question type:
If the question is “How many years of experience do you have in a relevant position?” and you set the answer as “more than 4”, an applicant answering ‘3’ will be highlighted in the applicant list and sorted as less suitable.

These questions are factored in during the sorting and review process of applicants, helping you to more quickly identify the most suitable candidate. You can read more about how auto-sorting works and the existing designations in this article.

Notice: You can add multiple screening questions with different types of answers to each job you are creating or editing.
